भारत और यूरोपीय संघ (EU) के बीच आज एक ऐतिहासिक मुक्त व्यापार समझौते (Free Trade Agreement—FTA) पर बातचीत सफलतापूर्वक पूरी हो गई। इसे दोनों पक्षों के बीच अब तक की सबसे बड़ी और सबसे अहम आर्थिक डील में से एक माना जा रहा है। यह समझौता भारत–EU आर्थिक संबंधों को नई दिशा देने वाला कदम साबित होगा।
18 वर्षों की लंबी बातचीत के बाद बनी सहमति
करीब 18 वर्षों तक चली लंबी और जटिल वार्ताओं के बाद भारत और यूरोपीय संघ इस व्यापक FTA पर सहमत हुए हैं। वाणिज्य सचिव राजेश अग्रवाल ने बताया कि यह समझौता संतुलित, भविष्य को ध्यान में रखकर तैयार किया गया है और इसमें दोनों पक्षों के हितों को प्राथमिकता दी गई है। इसके तहत 90 प्रतिशत से अधिक व्यापारिक क्षेत्रों में शुल्क और अन्य व्यापारिक बाधाओं को कम या समाप्त किया जाएगा।
क्यों अहम है यह समझौता
यह FTA भारत को लगभग 2 अरब उपभोक्ताओं वाले विशाल बाजार तक बेहतर पहुँच प्रदान करेगा और वैश्विक GDP के करीब एक-चौथाई हिस्से को कवर करेगा। यूरोपीय संघ पहले से ही भारत का एक प्रमुख व्यापारिक साझेदार है और इस समझौते से निर्यात–आयात में बड़ी बढ़ोतरी की उम्मीद की जा रही है।
व्यापार में क्या होगा बदलाव
समझौते के लागू होने के बाद भारत और EU के बीच टैरिफ में उल्लेखनीय कटौती होगी। यूरोपीय कारों पर लगने वाले ऊँचे आयात शुल्क को चरणबद्ध तरीके से कम किया जाएगा। वहीं भारत के कपड़ा, चमड़ा, रसायन, खेल सामान और अन्य श्रम-प्रधान उद्योगों को यूरोपीय बाजार में ड्यूटी-फ्री या कम शुल्क पर बेहतर अवसर मिलेंगे।
आर्थिक सहयोग को मिलेगी नई गति
विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि यह समझौता केवल व्यापार तक सीमित नहीं रहेगा, बल्कि निवेश, रोजगार सृजन और तकनीकी सहयोग को भी नई मजबूती देगा। भारत–EU FTA को वैश्विक व्यापार परिदृश्य में एक महत्वपूर्ण और दूरगामी बदलाव के रूप में देखा जा रहा है।

India–EU Trade Agreement: Historic Turning Point as Free Trade Talks Conclude Successfully

India and the European Union (EU) have successfully concluded negotiations on a historic Free Trade Agreement (FTA) today. It is being regarded as one of the largest and most significant economic deals between the two sides so far. The agreement is expected to give a new direction to India–EU economic relations.
Agreement Reached After 18 Years of Negotiations
After nearly 18 years of prolonged and complex discussions, India and the EU have reached consensus on this comprehensive FTA. Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal stated that the agreement is balanced, future-oriented, and designed with the interests of both sides in mind. Under the deal, tariffs and other trade barriers will be reduced or eliminated across more than 90 percent of trade sectors.
Why This Agreement Is Important
The FTA will provide India with improved access to a massive market of nearly 2 billion consumers and will cover close to one-quarter of global GDP. The European Union is already one of India’s key trading partners, and the agreement is expected to significantly boost bilateral exports and imports.
What Changes Will Be Seen in Trade
Once implemented, the agreement will bring major tariff reductions between India and the EU. High import duties on European cars will be reduced in a phased manner. At the same time, India’s textile, leather, chemical, sports goods, and other labour-intensive industries will gain better access to European markets with duty-free or reduced tariffs.
New Momentum for Economic Cooperation
Experts believe that this agreement will not only expand trade but also strengthen investment, employment generation, and technological cooperation. The India–EU FTA is being seen as a major and far-reaching shift in the global trade landscape.
