JD Vance arrived in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, on Friday, where he will lead a US delegation in peace talks aimed at ending the ongoing conflict involving Iran. The meeting is being held at the Serena Hotel Islamabad under Pakistan’s mediation. Its primary objective is to turn the two-week temporary ceasefire—established after months of tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran since February—into a permanent agreement.
Vance is accompanied by former President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and senior advisor Jared Kushner.

The talks are expected to be challenging, as Iran is demanding a halt to Israeli strikes in Lebanon and the return of its frozen assets. Additionally, reopening the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz remains a key issue in the negotiations.
