ਜਲੰਧਰ, 10 ਸਤੰਬਰ: ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਕੈਬਨਿਟ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕੈਬਨਿਟ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਮੋਹਿੰਦਰ ਭਗਤ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਚੂਨੀ ਲਾਲ ਭਗਤ (93) ਦਾ ਵੀਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਡਲ ਹਾਊਸ ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ਾਨਘਾਟ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਰਾਜਕੀ ਸਨਮਾਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਆਗੂਆਂ, ਜਨਤਕ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਮ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਵਿਦਾਇਗੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਸ਼ਵਨੀ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਭਗਤ ਨੇ ਅਗਨੀ ਭੇਟ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੀ ਟੁਕੜੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਗਾਰਡ ਆਫ਼ ਆਨਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਲਾਮੀ ਭੇਟ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ।
ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਵਰਜੀਤ ਵਾਲੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਸਤਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਮਰਹੂਮ ਚੂਨੀ ਲਾਲ ਭਗਤ ਦੀ ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਦੇਹ ’ਤੇ ਫੁੱਲਮਾਲਾਵਾਂ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਕੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਬਾਗਬਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ ਭਲਾਈ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਫੁੱਲ ਭੇਟ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ।
1 ਦਸੰਬਰ 1932 ਨੂੰ ਸਿਆਲਕੋਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਨਮੇ ਚੂਨੀ ਲਾਲ ਭਗਤ ਵੰਡ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਸਮੇਤ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਆ ਵੱਸੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਯਾਤ ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਖੇਡ ਸਮਾਨ ਨਿਰਯਾਤਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਇਆ।
ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਹ 2011 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਸਪੀਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਅਤੇ 2012 ਤੋਂ 2017 ਤੱਕ ਕੈਬਨਿਟ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ ਨਿਭਾਈਆਂ। ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਸਰਕਾਰ, ਮੈਡੀਕਲ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਖੋਜ, ਕਿਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਗਲਾਤ ਤੇ ਜੰਗਲੀ ਜੀਵ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਰਹੀ।
ਰਾਜ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮਰਹੂਮ ਆਗੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਬੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਅਦਾਰਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਧੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੀ ਛੁੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਅੰਤਿਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਮੌਕੇ ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਡਾ. ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਚੱਬੇਵਾਲ, ਮੇਅਰ ਵਿਨੀਤ ਧੀਰ, ਬਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਮਦਰਦ, ਇਰਵਿਨ ਖੰਨਾ, ਪਵਨ ਟੀਨੂੰ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ, ਅਬਦੁਲ ਬਹਿਰੀ ਸਲਮਾਨੀ, ਮਨਾਗਲ ਬੱਸੀ, ਡਿਪਟੀ ਮੇਅਰ ਮਲਕੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ, ਇੰਦਰਵੰਸ਼ ਚੱਢਾ, ਕੀਮਤੀ ਭਗਤ, ਨਿਤਿਨ ਕੋਹਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਥਿਆੜਾ ਸਮੇਤ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸ਼ਖ਼ਸੀਅਤਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਨ।
ਮਰਹੂਮ ਚੂਨੀ ਲਾਲ ਭਗਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਾਰ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਧੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਧੀ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਹੈ।

Former Punjab Minister Chuni Lal Bhagat cremated with state honours; Leaders and citizens pay tribute
Jalandhar, September 10: Former Punjab Cabinet Minister Chuni Lal Bhagat, 93, father of Punjab Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat, was cremated with full state honours at the Model House Crematorium in Jalandhar on Thursday. Political leaders, public representatives and people from various sections of society gathered to pay their final respects to the veteran leader.
His son Ashwini Kumar Bhagat lit the funeral pyre, while a Jalandhar Police contingent accorded a ceremonial guard of honour and fired a salute.
On behalf of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia and Commissioner of Police Satinder Singh laid wreaths on the mortal remains. Floral tributes were also offered by the Horticulture and Defence Services Welfare departments.
Born on December 1, 1932, in Sialkot, Chuni Lal Bhagat and his family settled in Jalandhar after Partition and later became associated with the sports goods export business.
During his political career, he served as Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly in 2011 and as a Cabinet Minister from 2012 to 2017, holding the portfolios of Local Government, Medical Education and Research, Labour, and Forest and Wildlife.
As a mark of respect, the Punjab Government had announced a half-day holiday in all government establishments across the state on Thursday.
Among those present at the cremation were MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal, Mayor Vineet Dhir, Barjinder Singh Hamdard, Irwin Khanna, Pawan Teenu, Amritpal Singh, Abdul Bahri Salmani, Managal Bassi, Deputy Mayor Malkit Singh, Indervansh Chaddha, Kimti Bhagat, Nitin Kohli and Rajwinder Kaur Thiara, besides several other dignitaries and citizens.
Chuni Lal Bhagat is survived by his family. Of his four sons and four daughters, one son and one daughter had passed away.
