पंजाब स्टेट पावर कॉरपोरेशन लिमिटेड (PSPCL) यानी पावरकॉम ने पंजाब में सरकारी विभागों के कार्यालयों में स्मार्ट बिजली मीटर लगाने की प्रक्रिया शुरू कर दी है। इस कदम का उद्देश्य लंबे समय से लंबित बिजली बिलों की समस्या को खत्म करना और बिजली खपत को पारदर्शी बनाना है।
अधिकारियों के अनुसार, कई सरकारी विभाग वर्षों से समय पर बिजली बिलों का भुगतान नहीं कर रहे थे। स्मार्ट मीटर लगाए जाने के बाद बिजली की खपत पर रियल-टाइम निगरानी संभव होगी, जिससे भुगतान प्रक्रिया में सुधार आएगा।
पावरकॉम इन स्मार्ट मीटरों को प्रीपेड सिस्टम से जोड़ने की योजना भी बना रहा है। इस व्यवस्था के तहत पहले भुगतान करना होगा, उसके बाद ही बिजली मिलेगी। जैसे ही रिचार्ज समाप्त होगा, बिजली आपूर्ति स्वतः बंद हो सकती है।
अधिकारियों ने बताया कि यह कदम सरकार के निर्देशों के तहत उठाया गया है और आने वाले समय में पूरे राज्य के सरकारी दफ्तरों में इसे लागू किया जाएगा।

PSPCL Begins Installing Smart Meters in Government Offices Across Punjab
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), also known as Powercom, has begun installing smart electricity meters in government department offices across Punjab. The initiative aims to address the long-standing issue of pending electricity bills and bring greater transparency in power consumption.
According to officials, several government departments have been defaulting on electricity bill payments for years. With the installation of smart meters, Powercom plans to closely monitor real-time electricity usage and ensure timely payments.
Powercom is also planning to link these smart meters to a prepaid system. Under this system, electricity will be available only after advance payment, and power supply may be automatically disconnected once the recharge balance is exhausted. This move is expected to increase accountability among departments.
Officials stated that the decision has been taken under government directives and the smart meter installation drive will be expanded to government offices across the state in the coming days.
